David and McKenzie met at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. David first noticed McKenzie during her daily runs around the school's campus. With the school's small campus there were multiple opportunities for the two of them to bump into each other. David specifically recalls a time when McKenzie was walking across campus looking beautiful in a blue dress. David and McKenzie became Facebook friends and shortly after David messaged McKenzie while he was home for Christmas break. Unfortunately, the conversation didn't last long as David let his nerves get the better of him and apologized for the impromptu message the following day. Nearly one year later, McKenzie and her friend Alanna were playing volleyball on campus when they noticed David walking. Alanna invited David to join them and as McKenzie introduced herself to David, he responded ''I know who you are.'' Even though David lost the game, he left a mark on McKenzie. David, being ambitious, initiated a hug but would walk away with a high-five. The two began messaging each other, and their friendship grew during frequent backroad drives together. During these drives, McKenzie admired David's strength of character and looked forward to each drive and movie night. After his continuous pursuit, David's wish for a first date was answered with dinner at Cattlemen's. Soon after, David asked McKenzie to be his girlfriend. Their new relationship was challenged as it became long-distance. Through many ups and downs, their friendship remained the foundation of their relationship. It wasn't until they spent time apart that McKenzie realized she didn't want to imagine a future without David by her side. After three years, David planned the proposal disguised as a horse-back riding date. The proposal was made all the more special as McKenzie's family was able to witness it themselves hidden meters away. They scheduled the next chapter of their story to begin 328 days later when they are set to be married.
