In order to keep our friends and family safe and healthy, we have rescheduled our wedding to July 17, 2021. We are disappointed to have to wait, but excited to celebrate with everyone in person next year!

I love surprises, and David was a complete surprise! I was meeting my dear friend Hyunjin for dinner to celebrate my birthday, and when she asked if a friend could stop by later, I didn't think anything of it. Well, an appropriate number of cocktails later, David came over to join us. I had no idea this was a sneaky set up that she and David had orchestrated, and I remained oblivious for our whole first conversation! But it was clear that David was a very intelligent, kind, and enthusiastic person with a passion for helping others. It was also clear that he was very handsome with a voice that I could listen to forever. Hyunjin organized several meetups with friends after that so we could get to know each other (we can't thank Hyunjin enough!). I readily agreed to play tennis to see David again, despite being absolutely abysmal at tennis and without owning a racquet. I bought one that day ( when the clerk asked if my game was more about spin or power....I confidently told him "power!" I couldn't tell him my game was actually about a crush. Given tennis terminology like "love" it seemed trite). I then embarrassed myself soundly on the court (David is very skilled at tennis). Still, while it's only been used once, I think that tennis racquet is one of the best investments I've ever made. Hoping to impress David rather than inspire pity, I invited him over for dinner with Hyunjin. Depending on who you ask, after dinner David sat at a polite distance apart, or as far away from me as he could get, on the couch to talk. I feared he wasn't interested in me anymore, and after several days of waiting to find out, my (granted, minimal) patience had run out, so I asked him if he wanted to get dinner. We went on our first date the following week! David is definitely the best birthday present of my life!

A few days before I met Laurel for the first time, I was having dinner with our mutual friend Hyunjin and lamenting my latest relationship failure. She had a wonderful idea - her good friend Laurel, who she repeatedly described as "one of the best people she knew," was single and she thought we might hit it off. I don't think she's ever been more right about anything! She invited me to join her and Laurel for a drink a few days later. I had no idea I was crashing Laurel's birthday dinner, and thanks to my obsessive punctuality, I arrived before they had even finished their meals. Luckily, she didn't hold it against me. I was immediately struck by her warmth and her enthusiasm, and by how comfortable I already felt around her despite an appropriate level of anxiety at the prospect of dating her. We hung out a few more times with friends before our first official date. Laurel will tell you that she embarrassed herself at tennis. But while it is true that few of her shots landed in the right place on the court, she impressed me with her athleticism, her tenacity, and her unflinching good nature even when doing one of the few activities at which she does not excel. Laurel will also tell you that I sat really far away from her on the couch when she invited Hyunjin and me over for dinner. I maintain that I sat in the natural place to have a conversation, given where she and Hyunjin were already seated. Plus, her apartment was really hot, and I worried that I was a bit sweaty and gross! From there, things progressed very quickly. As any of my friends can attest, I usually tend to over-analyze even the smallest decisions (especially when it comes to dating). But with Laurel, it was obvious from the start that we were perfect together. Fortunately for me, she saw it the same way!
