Dave and Kyle drive up here at night when the crowds are gone for views of the city and the stars. This is also where you can start a 1.5-hour round-trip hike to the Hollywood Sign (use Google Maps' walking directions during your hike so you don't get lost). Another great hike in this area is the Glendale Peak Trail Head in Griffith Park.
Dave planned Kyle's surprise birthday party here in 2019. It has an inviting outdoor space with lawn games, tractors, and lots of couches, tables, fire pits, and other seating arrangements.
An amazing modern art museum in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles.
If you like cars, the Petersen is a must-do. There's an entire floor dedicated to the history of Porche, and there are many classic cars, classic motorcycles, and prop vehicles from your favorite Hollywood films—including the Batmobile.
LA's iconic fine art museum. The building's architecture and landscaped gardens are as much of an attraction as the art displayed indoors. For those from Boston, this is LA's version of the Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.
Dave and Kyle have each brought their parents here. An Italian-style villa where John Paul Getty stored some of his best art. For those from Boston, this is LA's version of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
The happiest place on Earth! If you're arriving early we definitely recommend taking a day down here and visiting Disneyland and California Adventure. So much to see and do!
If you don't feel like trekking to Anaheim, we recommend Universal Studios Hollywood. Fun vibes, not to mention Jurassic Park and Harry Potter attractions.
Dave's favorite hiking trail. A wide dirt path, a little steep at times, and beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. Sneakers are fine, though they will get dusty.
The most-LA hike imaginable. Incredible views and people watching. Watch out for stray selfie sticks, celebrities with their shirts off, and "influencers".
This is where Kyle and Dave have both competed in the annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon.
If you rent a bicycle in Santa Monica, you can ride it along the water all the way to Manhattan Beach Pier and beyond. Dave used to live on this route and would bike or run this trail frequently.
This is the Versailles of Los Angeles. The gardens at the Huntington Library are spectacular.
A beautiful botanical garden that's a little more low-key than the Huntington Library.
Are you looking for a $20 sandwich while fighting celebrities to place your order? You may not think so, but the food here is incredible. Try the Mediterranean Breakfast, Tuna Conserva sandwich, a 3-side sampler box from the deli counter, or a slice of babka—all Dave's favorites.
Very creative monthly flavors (including vegan options). Our favorite is March’s “Pot of Gold” with Lucky Charms. Our least favorite is October’s flavor with chocolate-covered crickets.
Another great spot along Abbot Kinney (America's "coolest" street). Dave would sneak away for a treat here in the middle of the work day when he worked in Venice.
Have you had poke before? Sweetfin was a lunch staple for Dave when he worked in Venice.
This is Nancy Silverton's restaurant famous for bread and the mozzarella cheese bar, featured on Netflix's Chef's Table. Kyle introduced Dave to his mom at a dinner here in 2018.
We love this place. They have the best cauliflower nachos (with crispy kale and lots of cheese), and it's quite easy to get a table.
Need a tune up before the big day? Welcome to Kyle's favorite (very intense) workout. There are locations in West Hollywood and Hollywood as well.
Kyle and David swim laps outdoors at the Rose Bowl frequently. There's also running trails, and during COVID, the many fields around the main stadium were turned into drive-in movie theaters and drive-in drag shows.
Voted LA's best Donut Place by Kyle and David during the Great Quarantine Donut Bracket of 2020. We highly recommend getting one of each (we won't tell anyone). Worth the drive!
A sprawling market downtown with lots of tiny eateries, not to mention Golden Road Brewery. Pairs well with a trip to The Broad!
