While most couple’s first words to each other are something cute or sweet, being competitive in nature, our first words to each other were "you're wrong!" During our first period of the day, Earth Space Science, we were having a debate. David, forever being smart aleck, thought he could prove my point wrong. Obviously, I can’t be wrong at anything ever, so this was not going to work. We decided we didn’t like each other much after this because the debate got pretty intense (I won, of course). Despite having every class together and having many friends in common, we didn't speak much again for a few months. It was somewhat like an unspoken rivalry. Fast forward and we both went through really crappy break-ups and bonded over needing to move on. Over the next year and half we became best friends and spent a lot of time together, and eventually we developed feelings for one another. David asked me to prom and during the last dance of the night, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Fast forward six years and here we are! The funny part was that in middle school (seventh grade) at lunch, I saw Kayleah walking through the cafeteria. I thought to myself, “Wow, she’s pretty”, but never acted on it because I was too shy. Who would’ve thought that we would get married years down the line? Must have been fate.
Kayleah really wanted to take nice holiday pictures of her, Sophie, and I. On December 9th it was supposed to be a beautiful day for pictures, so we decided we would take them then, around sunset. I had bought the ring months ago, but, I wanted to make the moment I asked her perfect. It was freezing that day, and Sophie loves the cold. We wanted to take Sophie outside to play so she would be nice and tired before pictures, and the weather was perfect for this. Everything seemed to be aligning perfectly for that day- I would have been dumb to not make it our moment. I planned everything out… Made a shirt for Sophie with iron-on letters that read, “Will you marry my Dad?” I planned to have her run to Kayleah in the middle of the golf-course for pictures. Once Kayleah read the words, she would look up at me holding flowers, a ring, and balloons behind me of champagne bottles, a ring, and a heart. Then she’d run to me all happy and crying while I got on one knee to ask the most important question of my life. Well that’s what I hoped would happen. In reality, Sophie was super hyper being so excited about the cold weather. We took our pictures on a golf-course and Sophie went sprinting around and rolling in the grass with the shirt that I made. All of this was happening while Kayleah was inside changing into her second outfit for pictures. Needless to say, the shirt lost a couple of letters by the time Kayleah came out and Sophie ran to her. Even with letters missing, she understood what I was trying to ask and said yes! She always told me when we got engaged she wanted her whole family with us, and thankfully her family was right there next to me, just as happy as I was that we would be taking this next step in our relationship.
