How We Met

6.15.15

We've always seen each other in passing but never truly held a conversation until June 2015 at a mutual friends house birthday party. The night started to dwindle down and it was time to call the night to an end. David had already left the party but realized he forgot his gyro and ran back inside. Right when he stepped in, him and I both looked at each other with a smile and started having small talk. At the end of our conversation he says, "Well, I'm about to head out. How about we exchange numbers and I contact you after church?". I don't know about you, but I've never had man in my generation tell me he'll contact me after church. I remember thinking in my head "Okay, God. I see what you did there! This is what I need."

The Proposal

6.15.2018

I must say, David couldn't have picked a more surprising moment to propose. During this time, David was graduating on June 16th, and I was overly stressing on ways to make his day nothing less than perfect. I had planned to have a huge graduation party at our house and was working on getting the final touches together. The day before David graduated, he said that he wanted us to dress up for a night of appreciation for my support of him throughout grad school. We started out with a nice tapas dinner and good conversation. After we finish, he said that he wanted to go to this secret Chicago spot that his friend told him about. At this point, I am in heels and wondering if it's going to be a mile walk. Nonetheless, I agreed and we headed out to continue our night. We end up in Lincoln Park and start walking through this garden preserve area. As we continue to walk, I see a huge group of people underneath this sculpture. I turn to him and say "That looks cool." he says ,"Yeah, we'll go there one day." As we get closer, I start to recognize a few familiar faces. Mentally, yet and still, I was not putting two and two together. My mind finally registers to what is going on and I completely start breaking down. I was looking at 60 of our family and friends who were awaiting our arrival at the Honeycomb sculpture. Even my favorite cousins flew out and I couldn't believe the support. Once he got on one knee asking if I would marry him, I not only said yes, but "You know I WILL!" Nothing will ever top that special moment in my life.
