How We Met

Summer of 2014

We first meet at Capital Life Church in the summer of 2014. The Sunday tradition of the day was to pick up lunch and eat out with a giant group of friends. That Sunday we ended up at bridesmaid Cassandra's apartment and were introduced to each other by Katherine's mom. After a few weeks of Sunday lunch meal conversations, David invited Katherine on their first "unofficial" date to a Friday evening prayer meeting in DC. They never quite made it to the prayer meeting because they lost track of time having a great conversation over dinner. After many weeks of Sunday lunches and fun times with friends, Katherine decided to up the ante with tickets to the White House Garden Tour! During the course of the tour we noticed that we wore matching color schemes of blue and gold. That lead to our very first picture together, which somehow made its way to Facebook leading to a plethora of questions and suspicions from social media astute friends and family. More months of good times past, families met and in the summer of 2015 David asked Katherine to be his girlfriend.

The Proposal

Winter 2018

The next 3 and a half years of dating, were filled with spontaneous adventures with friends, quality time with family in Atlanta & Colombia, memorable dates, serving at Capital Life Church together, salsa lessons, meaningful conversations, powerful prayer sessions and evenings at the Kennedy Center. 1280 days later, to be exact, David finally proposed! He had planned what Katherine thought was to be a double date with groomsman Aaron and his girlfriend, Christie. David and Aaron had met just 4 days earlier to plan the entire proposal at an outdoor shopping area, City Center, in Washington DC. The plan was simple. Show up at 5:30pm, walk to the "rendezvous" spot (where Aaron and Christie were hiding to take pictures), and pop the question. All was going according to plan, except Katherine decided to go on a Kate Spade excursion, wasting crucial lighting time for pictures before sunset... Upon finally arriving at "the spot" David dropped to one knee much to the surprise of Katherine and a few on lookers. David began his poorly rehearsed monologue while simultaneously putting the ring on Katherine's finger. Flustered and overwhelmed Katherine had one response "Thank you, I love you. But aren't you supposed to ask a question?". Yep, David had completely forgot to ask "Will you marry me".... After a do over, Katherine joyfully accepted and the newly engaged couple enjoyed a wonderful dinner with Aaron and Christie.
