Her Side of the Story

How We Met

It was my first semester as a freshman at the University of Arkansas. We both took Chinese I Language class in the Old Main building. Unofficially, we met through passing each other in class. I sat near the front and David sat in the last row. In class, we were required to participate in speaking assignments. Whenever it was David's turn to answer our professor's questions, he was either clueless or fast asleep (it was an early class). In my mind, all I could think was, "What a slacker!" Haha...little did I know I'd get to know him better the following semester with our second Chinese class together.

His Side of the Story

How We Met

I was just going to my Chinese class because I had just switch majors. I walked in and noticed this cute girl sitting in the front of the class with a bow on her head. I didn’t think much of it because most of my previous classes, I met people and never talked to them again after that class was done. However, God had a different plan. After the first semester in Chinese, I surprisingly saw Kalli again in Chinese 2. It was cool, but I still didn’t talk to her until much later after Chinese classes ended. I remember it just like yesterday, I kind of stumbled upon Kalli and a mutual friend. We struck up a conversation while our mutual friend went to say hi to someone else. And that is just the beginning.

The Proposal

1.2.2021

I drove up to Fayetteville from Little Rock to hangout with David for the weekend. It was snow flurrying on and off by the time I arrived there. We did our usual thing: eat pho at Pho Thanh II, run errands, and then play Pokémon Go (yes we are nerdy haha). We drove to University of Arkansas campus but then David told me to put on this eye mask blind fold...of course I had a feeling what was going to happen next. We got out of the car and he walked me towards Old Main (where we met). I took off my blindfold and David played his guitar while he sang "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, an artist we bonded over early on before dating. As he was singing, a dog approached us and sat to watch the show for a minute. I looked at David confused thinking, was this part of it? Obviously not because David laughed and the owner of the dog guided the dog away. After he finished his song, he nervously asked me to marry him. And of course, I said yes. I think we were both flustered and only came out with one good picture. The next day we went back to U of A when the sun was out, soaked in the moment, and took better pictures.
