David and Josie’s story began on a random Thursday night in September 2022, at a pickleball court in Atlanta — because nothing says romance like smashing a plastic ball over a net. They kept running into each other at different courts around the city over the next few months, but it was Josie’s strategic “I’m hungry, let’s get dinner” hints that finally led to their first official date. That dinner turned into hours of chatting, as they discovered just how much they had in common and how much fun they could have together. From there, their athletic adventures escalated: pickleball became flag football, soccer, and kickball, though Josie rarely lets David win — and he’s come to accept it…mostly. Over the past 2 years, they’ve traveled to visit David’s family members and learned the high-stakes world of Euchre at the Wirtz household. Their story came full circle on April 19 of this year, when David surprised Josie with a proposal over the lake in her parents’ neighborhood… right across from the pickleball courts where it all began.
