We met each other when David came back from missions in Tnazaniain in December 2019. We initially met at Crossview’s Christmas at the Grand and From there we got to know each other better at game nights and Church events until he returned to Tanzania in January. Luckily Covid-19 did something good and brought us back together in April 2020. We then spent a year as friends and began dating in 2021.
On Friday, November 19, David told me he planned to do some of my bucket list things (he was surprising me with which ones because i have over 70 on there lol) When he picked me up at 4:45 we drove to Rodeo Park in Fort Madison. In the car he told me we were gonna “etch something into a tree” which is on my bucket list so he got out his knife and we walked to a pine tree by the road. While he etched H+D into the tree i read a letter i wrote to him saying how much i appreciate him and how excited i am to one day have a ring on my finger and spend the rest of my life with him (i was completly unaware of his intention to propose a few minutes later). He finished the carving and then brought out a flouting lantern we could release together. It was windy and cold but David did not give up even with my encouragment that we could do it another time. We watched the lantern float away over a field until it caught fire and burned to the ground. After that he brought out a fire extinguisher for me to spray. He pointed to a street lamp a hundred feet away and said we should walk over to it so that i could see all the white stuff come out of the extinguisher. We walked over and i sprayed the whole thing and it made a massive white cloud that drifted away. It was really cool. Then David said that he had something on his own bucket list he wanted to cross off and i was super excited because i didnt know ue had made a bucket list. He gave it to me and on the front said “David’s bucket list”. In order to read it i had to turn away from him in order to get the light from the street light to read it. And when i unfolded it. I saw that the first thing on the list was “ask haley to marry me”. I turned back around to him and saw he was on his knee holding the open ring box. I imedialty started crying from happiness and he asked me to marry him. I said yes.
