Our Story

We first met at the Milford Proving Grounds during our initial engineering rotations at GM. Fiona had moved to Michigan a couple of months earlier and, by chance, found a place less than half a mile from David and Evan's apartment in Royal Oak. We quickly became close friends, bonding over almost daily foosball games at work (David won every game until Fiona finally claimed her first victory in April 2017), as well as beer pong and other wholesome young-twenties bonding activities. The first meal David ever prepared for Fiona was Kraft mac and cheese with tuna, and it's this example of culinary excellence that truly sealed our friendship. David introduced Fiona to Michigan football, coney dogs, and driving in wintery conditions, while Fiona introduced David to backpacking, fondue, and rugby. Our friendship blossomed into a relationship on a friends' ski trip to Boyne Mountain in February 2017. We had our first official date on Valentine's Day at One-Eyed Betty's. Soon after, we were exploring Cancun together, meeting Fiona's friends and family in the Bay Area, and taking road trips around the Midwest. Our adventures soon extended across the USA and to Switzerland to visit Fiona's family. Fiona moved to Detroit at the end of her first year in Michigan, and David followed a year later when we got our first apartment overlooking the Whole Foods parking lot in Midtown. After a couple of years there, and a few more in a quieter carriage house apartment in the Art Center where we weathered COVID-19, we purchased a house together in Woodbridge, a tree-lined neighborhood on the outskirts of Midtown. We took the next step in our relationship on a trip to Switzerland with David's parents last year, where Fiona's dad and David planned a boat cruise along the Rhein. In the middle of the river, overlooking the famous Basler Münster, David proposed at the front of the small ferry boat. It was an incredibly special way to introduce David's parents to Switzerland and to connect us to Fiona's dad's hometown.
