A Grady Love Story

From Grady to Forever

David and Feven met in October 2023 at Grady Hospital, during one of the busiest and most formative times of their lives. David was an intern in internal medicine, doing his best to survive residency one page at a time, when he went to check on a patient who had just been transferred to the stepdown unit. What he did not know at the time was that Feven was working there. The patient happened to be in a shared room. Feven was not David’s patient’s nurse, but she was caring for the other patient in the room. Somewhere between charting, alarms going off, and trying to look like he had everything under control, they made eye contact. It was one of those moments that lasted just a second longer than expected between two people who were technically strangers, but it was enough to be memorable. Throughout the visit, David kept finding reasons to glance over, and more than once, Feven caught him. On his way out, David went out of his way to introduce himself, despite having absolutely no clinical reason to do so. Naturally, that was the exact moment he got paged and had to leave mid-conversation. A very on-brand residency moment. What Feven did not know until much later was that David returned to the floor the next day and the day after, fully committed to “checking on his patient,” but really hoping to see her again. As luck would have it, she was off both days. Timing, it seemed, had its own plans. A few months passed, rotations changed, and their paths did not cross again. Then in January 2024, David received a notification that someone had added him on Instagram. His first thought, “I know that's not who I think it is...” It was. He accepted quickly and asked if they knew each other from Grady. Feven’s response, “...I think we do,” carried just enough sarcasm for David to feel her rolling her eyes through the screen. When he asked how she found him, she replied, “Are you going to keep asking all these questions or ask me out?” At that point, it became clear that it was time to stop asking questions and start making plans. Say less, he asked her out. Their first date was at Drawbar, and from there, everything seemed to fall into place. What began as a chance encounter quickly grew into something much deeper. They bonded over long shifts, the shared chaos of medicine, and the kind of experiences that only Grady can provide. Along the way, they also discovered a shared love for traveling, trying new foods, and exploring different cultures. From Caribbean flavors to Eritrean dishes, food quickly became one of their favorite ways to connect and learn more about each other. More importantly, they pushed each other. Through long hours, big decisions, and everything in between, they became each other’s support system. David matched into Cardiology fellowship in Los Angeles, and Feven began preparing for her next step, applying to CRNA programs with plans to continue her journey in Southern California. On March 26, 2026, they got engaged. Now, they are preparing to move to Los Angeles together, excited to begin this next chapter side by side. From a shared hospital room at Grady to building a life across the country, they are grateful for every step that brought them here and even more excited for what comes next.
