We'd love for you to join us virtually as we exchange our vows during our Holy Matrimony at Indonesian Evangelical Church, San Francisco.
We first met at Calvin College, a Christian University in Grand Rapids, MI. David just arrived from Indonesia to pursue his undergraduate degree and his cousin Moses, who was a Senior at Calvin College, gave David a tour of the Calvin Apartments, where he introduced David to Fe briefly. But nothing special happened there. It was not until we co-directed the Indonesian Act for Rangeela 2016, Calvin's annual cultural festival. At first our meetings were mainly about Rangeela, but we began spending more time together to study and hang out. We also got to know each other better while working as cleaning crews at Calvin's Library. Days turned into months, and we know each other better and deeper both personally and spiritually. We share the same vision of serving and blessing others around us for God's glory.
After dating for 2 years, Fe had to go back to Indonesia due to her expiring student visa. Thus, we began our long distance relationship. From 2018 until 2021, Fe was in Indonesia and David was in the US—we met each other only twice, no more than two weeks in total. The rest, we had a recurring zoom meeting invite trying to find a time despite the 13+ hours time difference. Later on, from 2021 until 2022, finally both of us were in the US. However, Fe was in New York City and David was in San Francisco. With the distance and time difference, it was challenging for us. However, we continued to trust and rely on God as the foundation of our relationship. In some sense, our long distance relationship has taught us to trust one another like how we trust God. We're not able to see God visually nor touch Him physically. Nevertheless, we're able to communicate with Him through prayers and scripture, trusting Him through our faith. Likewise, being in a long distance relationship means that we can't be physically together, but we have the trust which we've built together and strengthened throughout our constant communication with each other.
Twenty twenty-two - a year for us two. A Tanzanite ring, only found in one mine. Precious gem that lusters, from purple to blue. More than 6 years it has been for us two. More precious than gems, only one of a kind. Billions of people, yet still I found you. - Poem by: David Imanuel Widjaja - ===== Why did we choose a blue gemstone for an engagement ring? Fe wanted a ring with a blue gemstone as blue is her favorite color. So David with his love for geology gave Fe a Tanzanite ring because Tanzanite can only be sourced in one place on earth, which is on the hills of Merelani in northern Tanzania, making it one of the rarest gemstones on planet earth.
