How We Met

August 1999

We initially met over 20 years ago, on the campus of Florida A & M University. We were both freshman band members in the Marching 100 and affectionately referred to each other as "Freshman Sister and Freshman Brother. While in college, we both were in relationships with other partners, and never dated each other during our tenure at FAMU. Coincidentally, a little over 15 years had passed and we re-connected in November 2015, during the Florida Classic Weekend in Orlando, Florida. During that weekend we shared long, intimate conversations and we harmonized by accident. In December 2015, we went on our first date and after 4 months of dating, we realized "Okay, this could be something.

The Proposal

December 18, 2018

We were at my job's Holiday Party at a venue in Miami Beach. We were celebrating the holidays and also one of my co-worker's retirement. Unbeknownst to me, each one of my co-workers also knew that David was going to pop the question. So after a few drinks and a few laughs, my friend Katera stands up to make a toast. However, she began to directly speak about me and thank me, and just carried on about me. I was a little embarrassed, considering the event was not about me, and that we were there dually celebrating the holidays and our co-worker's retirement. Thinking Katera was drunk and rambling, I immediately got up and proceeded to tell Katera to sit down. There I was standing next to Katera, trying to get her to take her seat, then I turned around and saw David standing next to me, and all of my close friends came out of thin air and surrounded us with cell phone cameras rolling! I was a bit confused and honestly, I did not realize what was going on and why all of them were there. It took me maybe 30 seconds to process what was happening. Then, I hear the DJ begin to play one of my favorite love songs. (I Love you more by Genuwine). Immediately after the song begins, I also hear the beautiful sound of a harmonic accompanying the song. I was overwhelmed with joy! David asked, and of course, I said yes! It was the most romantic moment I've ever experienced and it will always be a memory that I hold close to my heart. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Fort Lauderdale!
