Our StoryOur Story

#HappilyEverAfter

We first crossed paths in the fall of 2016 while working as Resident Assistants in Pride Hall at A&T. It happened during a staff meeting. There was nothing special on the surface until our eyes met and lingered a little longer than expected. We both felt it right away, even if we didn’t yet know what it meant. At the time, we didn’t act on that feeling. College was loud and fast, and life had its own plans. We dated other people and followed different paths, but over the years, we kept finding ourselves in the same spaces—usually just out of sync. There were countless parties where one of us was arriving as the other was leaving and so many quick glances across crowded rooms. Every time though that same familiar feeling returned, patient and unchanged. When the world slowed down in 2020, so did everything else. We both found ourselves in Charlotte, North Carolina, and reconnected in a way that felt easy and natural. David made the first move by asking Caira to come watch the first Tyson Fury–Deontay Wilder fight. Caira didn’t know much about boxing, but she came anyway—and that small yes opened the door to something bigger. Not long after, we took a road trip to Niagara Falls, traveling miles of open highway through a quiet, uncertain world. With fewer distractions and nowhere else to be, we learned each other in a deeper way. Through long conversations, shared silence, and time that wasn’t rushed we learned each other. Along that journey, we realized the feeling we’d carried for years was real and worth choosing. By 2021 we officially began dating, guided by what that trip had already shown us. Today, we move through life as best friends. We laugh often while pushing each other to be better. We’re grateful for a love that waited, found its moment, and bloomed right on time.
