It was a sunny afternoon in Gaborone and young David had decided to visit his cousin, who was staying at the complex that Chiedza happened to also reside in. After a few words exchanged with his cousin the two then decided to continue said conversation poolside within the complex. As the two were conversing a young lady in the apartment above them directly adjacent to the swimming pool popped her head out the window and quickly back in. She could not believe her eyes. "Maihweeee, mwana akanaka uyo!" she whispered as she flung herself back inside. Direct translation of her exclamation in English is "Oh my, baby is beautiful that one!". Pink in the cheeks she gathered her confidence and stuck her head out again and yelled "Hi Fie!", who in turn responded "Ah, ndeipi Chie". David turned his head to locate the source of this interesting voice and in a moment their eyes locked. "This is my cousin David, David this is my friend Chiedza." the cousin said in an attempt to prevent an awkward moment. "Hi!" he said. "Hey!" she responded. Fast forward 10+ years later we are getting married.
I met David in 2009. He was hanging out with a friend in my housing complex. I later bumped into him at church and greeted him as someone I had seen before. I remember he invited me for a movie night once. I didn't go cause "church people are boring". I think we became friends in university. He was such a cool friend. I remember he was the only friend that gave me a graduation gift at my graduation party. We became very close and I replaced his childhood best friends (sorry Chimzy and Beki). Anyway, chemistry started brewing and I remember after Valentines day, he bought me some chocolates and said that it was because they were on special since Valentines day was over. I always used to ask him if he was this way to all his friends and he would always reassure me that he was Mr. Nice guy when he knew he was in lurveee with my irresistible self. And now we are getting married. Stay tuned for our book, HOW TO ESCAPE THE FRIENDZONE.
