After bonding over cocktails at the cozy bar Osamil Upstairs one crisp September evening in 2022, David and Alex’s connection quickly deepened. Subsequent dates took them to quirky omakase spots all over the city, turning each date into a delightful culinary adventure. They soon found themselves embarking on trips to lay on the beaches of Fire Island, hike the extraterrestrial deserts of Joshua Tree, canoe across the chinampas of Mexico City, climb to the top of the Torii Gates in Kyoto, and bike around the hilly island of Naoshima visiting art museums. Each trip was a new chapter in their growing love story, filled with unforgettable memories, fun, and good friends. Last Fall, Alex met David for a taro milk boba tea after a long week of work. As they walked across Central Park towards The Loch, Alex glanced at his phone and asked David about his day, which hid the truth that Alex’s nerves were fraying. The forecast had a low chance of rain, but the clouds in the sky were ominous. Approaching a secluded spot by The Pool, hidden by weeping willows with the pre-war buildings as a backdrop, David asked, “I wonder who set up that picnic by the water?” Alex replied nervously, “It’s for us.” All the words Alex prepared had escaped him as they approached the waterside.
