FAQs

Question

Aren't Agnes and David married?

Answer

Yes! We've been married for seven years now.

Question

Why another ceremony?

Answer

Agnes has chosen to be baptized into the Catholic Church on Easter Sunday this year, April 5. Before her baptism, the Church requires that Agnes and David's civil marriage be "convalidated" within the Church. Hence the ceremony!

Question

What precisely is a "convalidation"?

Answer

A convalidation ceremony is a Catholic Church rite that validates a civil marriage, making it a recognized sacrament, typically for couples where at least one person is Catholic (David, in this case) and they married outside the Church without proper permission. It's essentially a new, formal exchange of vows before a priest or deacon, bringing the union into full sacramental life, allowing participation in communion, and giving the marriage God's blessing within the Church.

Question

I'm not Catholic, can I still come?

Answer

Of course! All are welcome to participate in the ceremony and watch Agnes and David reaffirm their vows in this setting.

Question

How long is the ceremony?

Answer

The convalidation ceremony takes approximately 40 minutes

Question

How many guests are coming?

Answer

Agnes and David want an intimate setting with their good friends from Houston and beyond and family. To that end, the guest list is limited to around 50 guests!

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Black-tie optional! You can dress as formal as you want (or not). We're here to celebrate and enjoy the day with Agnes and David.

Question

Where will the reception be?

Answer

We have reserved space at the Park House of Houston for the reception. A set menu and drinks will be provided. The first part is a pre-lunch reception from 11:30-12:45 as we wait for everyone to make their way from St. Theresa church to Park House (approximately a 10-15 minute drive). The latter part is a lunch reception with drinks, a set menu, and music.
