The weekend of the proposal David and Nicole took a trip to Riverside, CA. Nicole had an important exam for her Interpreting career and David wanted to tag along for support. After a lot of fun in Riverside, they visited Manhattan Beach. There, they saw an ice cream shop which put David’s plan in full motion. David hinted at buying ice cream ALL DAY but specifically stopping at our favorite local ice cream shop, Ampersand Ice Cream. He desperately wanted to try the seasonal flavors and not knowing of his plan, Nicole thought this was strange but not strange enough to question it. With their first date being at a local ice cream shop, (and David knowing about her love for all things sweet) he decided to pop the question at the very same shop when they returned home. His idea was asking the shop to put “Nicole, will you marry me?” on their seasonal menu board. David was in close contact with the shop manager the whole way home, giving them updates on when they’d arrive so they’d put out the special “seasonal menu” for them. He admittedly was VERY NERVOUS and didn’t quite realize he was acting suspicious. To his surprise, Nicole was the least bit interested in getting ice cream (probably because she was tired from hearing about it all day) but he did a good job of convincing her he was “excited about the seasonal flavors”. Though tired from the trip, she agreed to stop real quick on their way home. The shop was a little busy so David tried to distract her before making their way to the menu. As they were looking around, David heard a customer ask a server “Who’s Nicole??” while looking at the menu. He panicked thinking his plan was going to be exposed! He rushed Nicole out of the building in hopes she didn’t hear. Fortunately for him, she was in fact very distracted. After making an excuse that he forgot his wallet in the car, and after his nerves calmed down, they headed back into the shop. Once inside, they made their way to the menu. Nicole takes a glance at it and sees her name. She awh's to herself in admiration that someone named Nicole was proposed to. She then points to the seasonal flavors David was so eager to try, and jokingly asks “Is that what you’ve been excited about all day?” Confused, David asks her, “Di….did you read it all?”. She looks at the menu again and it all clicks! And by the time she turns back around, David was down on one knee holding a ring. She was VERY surprised. But after a couple double takes, and through some tears, she said “Yes!”. The small room erupted in applause for the newly engaged couple and it was absolutely perfect. They’ve been planning ever since, and are so excited to celebrate their love with their family and closest friends!
