How They Met

9.6.04

David and Shawna met on their first day of high school freshman year on September 6th, 2004! Each coming from their rivaling middle schools, they ended up having block class together. David was a faster reader than Shawna so they were in different groups, but somehow they got on the same page later in life. They kept running into one another in the spring of 2013. First spotting each other for the first time since high school at the Fremont Troll Stroll, which is a charity pub crawl. Soon after that, they both happened to sign up for the same summer beach volleyball league at Golden Garden on opposing teams. With all the run-ins, they became friends and laid the groundwork for what was to come. Through the underdog sports league they stayed in touch. They started playing on the same softball team and then on the same volleyball team. Eventually it blossomed into a romantic relationship and they started dating in the fall of 2015. Since that time they have continued to play on those same teams and eventually moved in together. Slowly they have combined their friends and family and have built a life together.

The Proposal

10.10.18

One fine day in October 2018, David asked if Shawna would rather do some outdoor cardio around Green lake instead of their normal going to the gym routine. Once Shawna got to the lake, David said he wanted to show her something he found down by the water. Walking towards the boat launch, Shawna could see a row boat decorated with a bouquet of red roses, rose petals and champagne on ice. David played it off like this was to celebrate their anniversary a week early. Out on the water, they were enjoying the sunshine on a beautiful fall day and listening to music while sipping on champagne. After about thirty minutes David suggested they move locations on the water and asked Shawna to untie the buoy. As she turned back around, David was on one knee and Shawna said yes!
