How We Met

When time stood still in a hardware shop

Last February, Anna attended Cru's Facilitator Guide School, and Dave was one of the lead teachers. She had heard of Dave's expertise in facilitating, so she was looking forward to meeting him. Dave had heard of Anna, and noticed her when she arrived, but wrote her off as a VERY young, beautiful woman and remained focused on teaching. At the conference, they connected over shared interests. There was a moment where they had joined others for free time in town and found themselves in a hardware store, oblivious to others and the passing time, so caught up were they in conversation. During that week, both were intrigued and interested in future conversations, but departed to their respective homes after the conference with nothing being communicated to that end. Just a few days after the conference, Dave, called Anna on the phone. They both really enjoyed the interaction which sparked an interest in each other on a personal level. Several long phone calls, emails and texts later, they were beginning to see this was quickly evolving into an exclusive relationship with the possibility of more. Visiting each other in their respective town and village made it clear that this was headed towards marriage. They have both described their journey together as easy, fun and orchestrated by God. They have individually been waiting for God's best in their lives, believe this to be the answer to that, and are overjoyed that they have found each other!

Engagement in Spain

A Knight finds his Queen

Picture a European square complete with cobblestone surface, a large cathedral on one side, and the King and Queen’s palace on the other side. That was the backdrop where the proposal took place. Dave and Anna were in Spain at the end of the Camino de Santiago, after walking 100 miles. Santiago, a beautiful old European city, was the perfect place to end one journey; and begin a new one…together. Dave included a few of their friends in the engagement. One presented Anna with flowers and another an ancient scroll before Dave arrived, dressed in a Templar Knight’s costume. He shared some thoughts on their relationship story, told Anna he loved her, for the first time, and eventually got down on one knee and asked her if I would she would make him the happiest man on earth and become his wife. Anna was not expecting the proposal that evening, nor in that part of their month long trip, so she was speechless. The ring she'd chosen was placed on her finger, and she said... yes! People in the plaza had stopped to watch and burst out in applause at the end. It was a moment neither of them will ever forget.
