written by Dave: We met when Dave was a new nurse working at Providence St. Vincent and had a month of orientation on the inpatient oncology unit that Alyssa works on. Dave was shy and nervous around his experienced charge nurse. They always felt drawn to each other and stayed in touch even though Dave left the hospital for another position. Eventually their situations aligned and they met up for a competitive round of miniature golf, drinks, and dinner. Dave spent this time listening to a nervous Alyssa ramble, which he thought was cute and charming. Their attraction began to grow and continues to this day.
written by Dave: Dave wanted to spend his life with Alyssa, this he knew. He planned to ask for her family’s blessing during a trip to Palm Springs. After weeks of planning, he came to the realization that there was no sense in waiting. Rather than just ask he decided to propose on the trip. He booked tickets to the aerial tram in Palm Springs with plans to pop the question at the top. The time to depart arrived so he packed his bag and inside it, a ring. He slyly asked her younger brother and his wife for their blessing while grabbing a quick snack before the flight down; they were on board. The next morning he approached her father and shortly after, her mother. After some important discussion, they too offered their blessing. At this point Dave was 4 for 4. He took a brief opportunity at the pool later that day to discuss with her twin brother who’s enthusiasm made it 5. The next morning Dave and Alyssa hopped in their rental car, made a quick sandwich stop, and headed to the tram. The ride up was beautiful and the two had lunch and shortly after began down a hiking trail. Dave waited for the perfect bluff. He prompted Alyssa to ask a fellow hiker to take their photo. Dave handed him the phone and said with a wink “she’s probably going to want a lot of pictures.” He said as he dropped to one knee ,”It feels like we are on top of the world up here, which is how I feel when I’m with you. I want to feel like that every day, will you marry me.” I think we all know where it went from there.
