Kate and Luke met freshman year of college (2016) in their public speaking class. Kate's friend Mallory, was the only person she knew in the class and after the first day of class Mallory ended up switching to a different class. She tried to get Kate to switch as well, but it did not work with her schedule so she was stuck. On the second day of class, each student had to get up and tell a story to the class. They both caught each other's eyes during their stories, and throughout the rest of the semester would chat occasionally about classwork. Eventually, Luke asked for Kate's number and the contact "Kate public speaking" was created. For the next four years, Luke and Kate remained good friends. Talking whenever they bumped into each other on campus, occasionally chatting via text, and they even both nannied the same kids at one point. Luke would also leave tickets for Kate's parents to come watch the RMU hockey games, getting on Kate's dad's good side early on. Despite this, it was not until almost a year after college that their real love story would begin. In August 2021, Kate had a loss and Luke reached out to her. This sparked a new level of connection for them. They grew closer and closer, until Luke moved to Florida for his hockey career in September. Once they were apart, they realized that they wanted to make the relationship official. They then spent the next two hockey seasons doing long distance and creating so many fun memories with their friends in Florida. Luke then accepted an offer to play hockey in Scotland, but only on the condition that Kate move there with him. Kate was up for the adventure and they packed up and went. After a lot of great hikes and views, Luke finally asked Kate to marry him on a waterfall hike with their dog, Hallie, in the beginning of November. Working around hockey seasons and planning abroad has not been easy, but they are thrilled to finally have a date set and to celebrate with everyone!
