Anytime that Ma hears a One Direction, Ed Sheeran, or Twenty One Pilots song, she records it and sends it to Darlene :') Ma has taught Darlene what it means to help others feel seen and she is forever grateful for that!

Papa Nino is very special to Darlene's heart. He is constantly teaching her the meaning of gratitude and also how to have fun. Whenever abuelito and abuelita came to visit, Darlene always saw them talking and laughing together. She hopes to follow their example and, together with Nathan, be grandparents that know how to have fun!

Mother dearest! Nathan has always been a mama’s boy and this mama has always been down to snuggle, dance, and hug as much as Nathan needs. If anyone ever needs a creative idea or someone they can depend on to get things done, they always turn to her! And now Nathan tries every day to make Darlene laugh as much as his mother made his father laugh. (And embarrass her as much too!)

Papas Fritas is the most incredible example of selfless service and patient hard work that Nathan knows. Nathan is trying every day to learn from him and be half the man that he is! One of Nathan’s favorite memories of home is playing “What’s the Next Number in the mathematical Sequence” at dinner time; this amazing and hilarious man kept Nathan busy!

Darlene was blessed to have Virginia randomly assigned as a roommate in 2021. Virginia constantly makes Darlene laugh, and they love jamming out to Pitbull and random party songs in the car. Darlene is able to talk with Virginia about so many things that only she as a Canadian-Ecuadorian, quadrilingual, queen can understand.

Nathan has been so blessed to have known Liam for years. They’re been running around together since they were 6 and 7 years old! As Liam’s oldest and closest friend, they’ve had ups and downs. They fought over girls and drove each other insane, but they always found themselves copying each other, and would ultimately always support each other through the tough times. Nathan knows he’ll be able to depend on Liam for as long as he lives.

Darlene and Nova met on Twitter back in 2013. Darlene was (is) obsessed with One Direction and Nova became the person Darlene went to to fangirl. They went to EFY together, were roomies at BYU and are constantly watching horror movies at 1am while eating Denny's that Nathan pays for.

Jared is a rock. Nathan realized that, in life, he is in constant search of people that remind him of Jared. Jared’s gentle and kind demeanor has been a massive blessing in Darlene and Nathan’s lives, and he is the best choice for intellectual conversations and hilarious game nights.

Daynalee is a queen. Playing video games is something they have loved to do together ever since Daynalee was able to hold a DS, and they would play Super Mario Bros late into the night. Now Daynalee beats Darlene at Smash Bros on the Switch when she plays as Sonic. Daynalee and Nathan love to make Darlene embarrassed when they're in public by singing songs at the top of their lungs and making sure the world knows who they are.

Jeremy Rawlins was the RA in the building that Nathan lived in on campus at BYU when he met Darlene, and Nathan just never let him go. Everyone could always depend on Jeremy to have an open door and open heart, and Nathan took advantage of both! Some of Nathan’s most precious revelations have been sparked by Jeremy’s words and he is always the best person to have at Come, Follow Me discussions. By the time Darlene and Nathan finally started dating, Jeremy had simply stopped asking if they were, so even though he was Nathan’s roommate at the time (and the three of them hung out together almost every day), Jeremy didn’t know until about 5 months later. Hahaha, so sorry about that again Jeremy.

LeeAnn changed Nathan and Darlene's life back in 2019 when she learned they hadn't eaten dinner yet and was so kind she made them taco salad and brought it to them. Ever since then, she hasn't been able to escape their friendship even though at times she thinks they hate her.

Brad was Nathan’s favorite boss and has been an incredible mentor to him! Whether they were working on tough product problems, chatting at company lunches, or nerd-ing out about a new feature in Notion, Nathan has loved every minute of Brad’s he’s been able to get. Brad is so incredible that he even dropped everything he was doing to pick up Darlene when she had car trouble.

Kate and Darlene met on the mission in 2019, and was Darlene's last companion. They served together in Maricopa, AZ aka Miraclecopa. They roomed together for a year and would constantly stay up to talk about ~feelings~ and deep stuff. They are constantly sending each other memes that only people who have gotten swag bags would understand ;)

Alec is one of Nathan’s oldest friends and it’s always been easy for Nathan to be himself around Alec! He’s one of the most disarming and hilarious individuals you will ever meet. One of Nathan’s best memories is getting yelled at by his father for staying up too late at a sleepover playing Super Smash Bros with the boys.

MC Kenna is the best! Darlene and Kenna met during Darlene's first semester Peer-Mentoring at BYU. Quickly they realized that they both lived in the same apartment complex and started hanging out! One particular game night, Kenna brought this crazy game that involved licking feet, drinking weird concoctions made out of salad dressing, and doing the weirdest things. Ever since then, Darlene and McKenna have thrived and love fangirling over One Direction.

Samuel is the reason Darlene and Nathan are getting married. He and Darlene have a mutual friend and Nathan just happened to tag along with his roommate (Samuel himself) meeting new people in the ward when they made that connection! Nathan lived with Samuel for 2 years and every day was full of deep conversations and learning about sharks.

The first time Darlene went to Oklahoma, Megan and Bret introduced Darlene to the masterpiece that is the Whataburger Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. Now everytime they are together, late night food is a must along with a good battle of Duck Game.

Bret is another old friend of Nathan’s, but the first to become his brother-in-law! So many late nights over the years growing up at each other’s houses and on camp-outs has turned into late nights at Whataburger and Darlene’s place playing board games. Bret is always down to party and will leave you laughing your head off!

During Megan and Bret's wedding, Darlene and Nathan spent most of the time with Zandi at the popcorn machine, and they thrived. Iron Man is Zandi's favorite, so she clearly has good taste. Darlene loves when she gets to be on family calls with Zandi because she gets to see all of her incredible doodles and drawings.

Darlene and Samuel first met when Darlene went home to open her mission call while Sam was serving in Boston. Darlene's family became close to him and stayed in touch, making him pupusas whenever possible. Once they both got home from their missions, Darlene and Sam became good friends, and he's become like a brother to her. Darlene thinks that Norma sometimes considers him as the favorite child, but Darlene won't let her spot be taken ;)

Darlene and Nathan have been so lucky to get to know Katee. They all started hanging out at Come, Follow Me every week and have learned a ton from her insights. She is the sweetest and is always making the BEST cookies on the planet. She puts up with Justin, Nathan, and Darlene always talking about Minecraft so she is truly a queen.

Justin is too good for Darlene and Nathan (and they always worried that he was too cool for them too). Just a few short months after meeting them, he took both of them home to California for Thanksgiving and they fell in love with his family! Katee is Justin's #1 fan, but Darlene and Nathan are close in second, cheering him on at his flag football games.
