So, this is how Darien and I met—get ready because it’s a good one! I used to work with one of Darien’s friends, and one day, this guy comes into work with his hair freshly done. Naturally, I took one look and said, “Whoever did your hair, I could do it better.” He wasn’t buying it. Fast forward a few days, and guess what? He showed up needing one of his barrel rolls redone. Coincidence? I think not. Long story short, I fixed it up, and he was impressed. So impressed that he immediately called his friend, who also needed his hair done. His friend was super busy but asked if I could come through that Saturday. So, Saturday rolls around, and I make the 45-minute drive. I got there early, so I sat in my car for 30 minutes, enjoying my breakfast and mentally preparing for whatever was about to happen. When I finally walked in, I saw Darien with these long, jet-black locs past his butt, and my first thought was: What the hell have I gotten myself into? I got to work, but mid-way through, his friend started complaining about how he had somewhere to be. So, I did what had to be done—I kicked Darien out of the chair, handled his friend’s hair real quick, then put Darien back in. To this day, if you ask him, he’ll tell you I made him move for someone else (which I totally did). I finished up, and Darien, being the gentleman he is, tipped me an extra $20. I told him, “Look, I gotta go, so this isn’t even my best work. But don’t worry, I’ll come back in two weeks and touch it up for free.” I left thinking, Wow, this guy is different. And apparently, he felt the same way because before I even got home, he called me. From that day forward, we’ve been locked in, talking nonstop. And the rest? Well, you already know how that turned out.
