How We Met

When We Were Young

Did you know that our story actually began when we were kids?! You see, both of our parents are from Ghana, so it is very common for immigrants to connect with other natives when they move to the U.S. Both of our families attended The Church of Pentecost in Atlanta, GA. It was at this church that our families became friends! Today, Darice's parents still attend that church, while Quinten's family attends All Nations Church. Fast forward another 10 years later and we ended up going to the same college! (#GoBears!). During our sophomore and junior year, we both attended a church called Kingdom Life and joined a band with some friends called Three17. As our friendship grew, we had many similarities that drew us closer and closer together! We were inseparable and each other's best friend! It's funny now when we look back because we always say, "who would have thought that we'd meet again after all these years!?" But God was definitely writing our stories and knitting us together. We are so excited to step into the beautiful journey of marriage and want to say thank you to each and every person who has been praying with us and for us. We could not have done it without you! And a big thank you to our parents for all of the sacrifices you've made to get us here - we honor you today and every day! Can't wait to see you all on the wedding day! Much love - Darice & Quinten

The Proposal

December 28th, 2020

After months of complaining and worrying about when we would get engaged, I finally made the decision to be content in the waiting. I remember talking to God and daydreaming about getting engaged on Christmas day. So when Quinten asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I simply said "a ring." Little did I know he had already been planning behind the scenes with our families. A few weeks later, Christmas Eve finally rolled around. But then so did Christmas Day...and the day after that! And soon enough, I started to doubt whether or not it would actually happen. Monday, Dec 28th, 2020 was like any ordinary day at the house when my mom had called me in the afternoon raving about a fancy party she got invited to. "They invited the entire family so we all have to go! It'll be fun, could you and your sisters get ready now?" I agreed, rallied up my siblings, and got ready as soon as we could. Mommy came home soon after and asked if I could go to the store to pick a few things for the party with my sister Deanna. Pulling into the parking lot of Costco (on exit 15), Deanna informed me that she "accidentally" grabbed the membership card for BJ's (on exit 14). So we made the detour to head to that store instead and at the checkout line, my mom called me saying, "Deedee (my other sister) just ripped her dress!!" Now, if you know my family then you know this is 100% typical Cudjoe-style-dilemmas, so I did not suspect a thing, but back at the house, Quinten and his family were actually setting up with my mom and Deedee for the surprise! After running to Ross and Target to find a new dress, Deanna and I were finally heading back home to meet up with my mom and then to the "party." Looking through the windows, I noticed white and yellow balloons on the floor, and once I opened the door I saw big yellow balloons on the wall that spelled, "Will You Marry Me" with Quinten at the top of the stairs next to the tree. He got on one knee, I jumped and said yes, and the rest is history!
