The Meet & Re-Greet

1996-2009

It's been so long you can ask anyone!! We met in Edmonton, Canada at a bar with some friends in the Summer of 1996. We had a mutual friend that introduced us and it took many months later for us to even connect. Darian pursued me (I get to write my version of the our story since I am creating this website!! HA) and we talked over the phone for a while. We didn't see each other again until November 1996 when Darian played in the Grey Cup (Canada's Super Bowl). They ended up losing that game but we were able to go on a date before he left for California a few days later. We lost touch for a few months (I moved to Calgary and him back to LA) but he managed to call my parents house and we reconnected Spring of 1997. We kept in touch throughout the years and I made my first trip to Denver that Summer where I met his mom, Wanda, for the very first time. In 1998, I moved to Toronto for college and Darian and I were still visiting one another every 6-8months. By 2002, we (I) decided to call it quits... it was a hard breakup but it was for the best. I would now like to show our age... we friended each other on Facebook in 2007. We messaged each other periodically - happy birthday, how's the family, etc... By the Fall of 2008, we talked more often and I made my first trip to Denver in six years. It was exciting and scary at the same time. I still remember seeing him and thinking of the St. Elmo's song and Darian running in slow motion as made his way to me from the practice field to say hello. In November 2009, I moved to Denver and the rest is history... 10 Years later we are engaged with a baby boy and life is good :)

The Engagement

Jan 2018

Summer of 2017 we went ring shopping - tried on rings, looked at different options - life got busy and nothing happened! Darian was away on a recruiting trip during my birthday weekend Jan 2018. He returned home a few days later and planned a birthday dinner - it was birthday dinners as normal. He took me to Guard & Grace - an amazing steakhouse in downtown Denver! ... let's be honest, I've been thinking all Fall and Winter how every event we attended would the perfect timing for him to pop the question, but nothing happened. So here we are at dinner, and knowing Darian, I didn't want to get my hopes up. So I focused on enjoying a nice dinner! Darian got up a few times (which is normal) and I was getting a bit annoyed as we hadn't spent a lot of time together due to his work schedule. Dinner is now finished and Darian hands me a card and a gift bag. I say thank you, read the card, open the bag to see the PERFECT little box and my heart skips a beat. I open the box and to my surprise, there was a little jewelry box. I did a little dance, opened the box and what did I see? Earrings. EARRINGS...REALLY??!! (Darian said my face changed to disappointment.. I don't think it did - LOL). I said thank you and Darian's response was "You don't like?" I said, "I do, they are simple and classic". I got up and headed to the restroom. I returned and saw the waiter had cleared our table. I ask Darian if he ordered dessert (which we never do) as I noticed clean flatware (sorry, an event planner notices weird things!). Shortly after, our waiter came out with a birthday cake and lit candle. I waited to hear everyone sing "Happy Birthday"; however it took another few minutes for me to notice the plate didn't say "Happy Birthday", but "Will You Marry Me" with the ring in an opened box. At that point Darian came around, got on one knee and asked me to marry him! Three days later, I found out I was pregnant - in September we welcomed DeMari

We Got Married!

August 2018

Not a lot of people know this, but Darian and I got married August 20th, 2018. We went to the courthouse at lunch time, before a doctor's appt to check up on Baby Hagan. After we officially signed our names, we waited for the clerk to give us our marriage certificate... Darian asked about refunds. REALLY??!! #lovethisguy
