Darcy’s side of the proposal

Aug 12, 2021

Collin proposed in August 2021 at one of his favorite places in the Bahamas. The week leading up to the proposal, there was a tropical storm offshore so rain was forecasted the entire weekend we were there, but we were going to go regardless. It was an extremely rough boat ride (Anna, who knew about the proposal, was an absolute trooper) and after 4ish hours, we made it to land. That night, everyone wanted to dress up a little since it was our first night there so I put on a cute jumper, still completely oblivious. We decided to play a few games (since it was raining) but Collin kept pacing and checking outside. I kept saying sit down and play but he was way too antsy. Still oblivious. I started to pick up on something about 30 min before when he wouldn’t remove his hand from his pocket (covering the ring box). I just kept thinking, he’s being so weird right now. At one point, he said let’s go walk out to the point. And I reminded him, it’s raining. And he said, let’s go anyways. So we walked out roughly 1/5 of the way to the point because the wind was blowing so hard (hence the bun in the pictures). I could sense he was nervous so I was starting to get nervous and just babbling about a fish I saw earlier and he had to ask me to stop talking so he could propose!

Collin’s side of the proposal

Aug 12, 2021

I’ve known for a long time that I was going to ask Darcy to marry me. After graduating I finally had some money where I could go find a ring for her. Kailey “helped” with a wrong ring size and a disapproval on the ring, but I was set on the ring I found. Then I needed to find the time to ask. The most beautiful place in the world I had ever been to was the Bahamas. Perfect fit, romantic walk on the sand at sunset over crystal blue water. Couldn’t get any better. We make it to the Bahamas with my family, Darcy and Anna. Everyone else on the trip knew what was going down the first night. Dad allowed me to not clean fish or the boat (I thought this was a dead give away) so I could get ready for the big scene. While building up the confidence and reciting my lines over and over, it starts to rain… Torrential down pour. I had a decision, do I risk someone spilling the beans or find another place to do this. I knew someone would say something and I couldn’t wait any longer so I knew it was happening this first night. I was ready to ask right at the dinner table or in the middle of the card game we were playing. Sure enough it stopped raining for 3 minutes, so I drag her out through the muddy sand. Everyone else walked out on the porch to watch (another big tell). I forgot all the lines I practiced and she wouldn’t stop talking about all her made up fish stories. It’s about to rain again, I see the clouds in the distance, and she won’t let me get a word in. I finally interrupted her and said some words that made no sense, but eventually got out “will you marry me?” Then there was a scream from a murder movie that got the entire islands attention followed up a yes and a kiss. I walked my prize fiancé back to the party to celebrate with family and friends.
