I was supposed to go back to Oklahoma but decided last minute to stay in South Carolina as a traveling ICU registered nurse. We had both told our friends and family we had given up on ever finding love. He was at the beach celebrating his birthday and thinking it would be him and the dogs forever. I was at home telling my mom how I was never going to meet The One because he didn’t exist. We matched online and went out for brunch a few days after I got back from Oklahoma. Brunch was great and led to walking around downtown talking and laughing. A couple hours later, he asked me to go out on his boat. We spent all afternoon cruising around the lake. While the sun set over the water, we fell madly in love. We knew our souls were meant to find each other.
Since that first date, Darci has been my soulmate, best friend, and most importantly my happily ever after. I decided I wanted to ask her at her parents’ new house, where we will be getting married. It was intimate and with her family. It just felt so right and made me smile. I had to make sure she would be caught off guard, so I asked her mom to make her think I was going to propose over dinner on a different night. She thought the whole surprise was spoiled. The next day, she got her nails done and thought she was going to her parents’ new house to check on things with her mom and sister. Her dad and I were already at the house hiding in the study. She came in and saw all the roses I had spread across the house to the kitchen island. When she got to the island to look at the board of pictures of us I had made, I snuck up behind her and got on one knee. She turned around, elated with her hands covering her mouth. I was so nervous I was going to drop the ring! She said “YES”, and we were engaged!
