Chris proposed to Katie on the banks of Dicks Creek! Given that Katie's mom and grandparents live on Dicks Creek (and that Kona loves to swim here), this stream is another weekly stop for Katie and Chris. While the falls of Dicks Creek are truly impressive, this stream also offers great swimming holes and is home to some beautiful Brown, Rainbow and Brook trout, for those looking wet a line. Dicks Creek Falls is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest just below the confluence of the Dicks and Waters Creek. To reach the falls go north from Dahlonega 13.7 miles on US19 to Mt. Pisgah Church Road (one half mile before reaching the junction of US19 and US129 at Turner's Corner) marked by a US Forest Service sign indicating Waters Creek Campground. Turn left on this road and go 2.6 miles to the falls which will be on the left.
In the Spring of 2017, I arrived late, around 11pm, at my hotel on the Dahlonega Square the night before my interview at the University of North Georgia. Nervous for the following day, I didn't sleep well, and decided to rise with the sun. I took a walk around this quaint town at dawn, and afterwards, knew I wanted to be here. Dahlonega is an incredibly special place, and I couldn't think of a better way to spend one's time than to take a walk with a friend or loved one around these small town streets - after all, I would say Katie and I have spent most of our time walking Kona, meandering in and around the Dahlonega square. Katie and I love this place, and we hope you do too. -Chris
If this is your first time visiting North Georgia, you should absolutely take walk through the Downtown Dahlonega Square. While there, be sure to walk (or drive) through the University of North Georgia's campus, where Chris will be starting his fifth year of teaching at UNG this fall.
