We met at East Carolina University. Danny was a senior in college and Courtney was a junior. We ran in similar circles but never really knew each other; tied together by an invisible string. Our fates collided at a football tailgate, when Courtney was meeting up with her friends and asked him for directions. Danny being himself, got on one knee and said “Courtney Hull, I don't know where they are, but I’ve always thought you are the most beautiful girl and anyone would be lucky to marry you.” Life continued on and we didn't see each other again for a long time, but Courtney always remembered how she felt in that moment. She even told her mother, Rhonda, about it. Down the road, Courtney was having a wine night at her best friend’s house on Eastern street. Ironically, this was also the first home in Greenville she lived at during her sophomore year. When she walked around the corner and into the living room, she locked eyes with no one other than Danny, sitting at the kitchen table. He was invited over by their mutual friend. We both describe feeling the exact same in that moment; the same way we felt the first time at the tailgate. In Danny’s words “ I could never forget it. I looked at you and it took my breath away. It was love from the start." We talked all night over red wine, cheap Burnetts, and card games with friends. We’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since.
