In January 2019, at a small pizza shop just outside the Tacoma Mall in Washington State, Danny and Darcy met. From the moment Darcy accepted the job, Danny had a feeling he wanted to be with her. Darcy, meanwhile, was focused on rebuilding her life and pursuing her education. Danny noticed that—and respected it. But he noticed other things too. He noticed the Tool bumper sticker on the blue RAV4 with the “Spread Good Vibes” tire cover. Soon enough, Tool started showing up on the pizza shop playlist. He also noticed she wasn’t completely comfortable running the register yet, so he quietly rotated between the oven, the line, and the counter, just so she could stay on the dough press. Danny also noticed that Darcy was an ambitious and kind person, who was always dreaming about the future. Danny decided he wanted to be part of that future. And the truth was, Darcy had starting noticing him early on too. What began as an oblivious friendship for her, transformed into something much more meaningful in less than two months time. And for both of them, it turned into dancing to the Bee Gees late after close on freshly mopped floors after everyone else had gone home. It turned into long walks in the middle of the night at Fort Steilacoom Park, dodging the security guard every time with quiet giggles. And it turned into adventure after adventure. Their story officially began on March 4, 2019, when Danny asked Darcy a simple question: “Do you like dates?” (the fruit, of course—just in case the answer was no). From there, their relationship grew rapidly and boldly. Darcy moved in, and together they got their first apartment. Danny had planned their six-month anniversary after only their first month together, and they rocked out to Iron Maiden that September. They had also discovered that they had a few things in common, such as their views on the world, on values, on goals, and of course, their favorite Game of Thrones character (the Hound, duh, he is the best one). And in that first summer, Danny gave Darcy her a Claddagh ring, a promise and commitment made with the quiet confidence that she was the one. When COVID arrived just before their first anniversary, they were already building a life together, and throughout the shutdown they navigated the uncertainty side by side. In 2022, at a small private cottage in Ashford, tucked away in the shadow of Mount Rainier, Danny proposed. And now, after seven years of learning, growing, dreaming, and putting in the hard work, Danny and Darcy are finally getting married. Danny has been ready to get married now for years and years. But Darcy had made a promise to herself to finish school first. So Danny waited more than patiently, and supported her through every step of that journey. As of 2025, and three degrees later, that chapter has completed. Along the way to 2026, their life together has been filled with countless adventures— mini vacations to California, Nevada, Oregon, and throughout Washington. The ongoing mission to find the best restaurants and drinks in town. And every movie that they could justify catching in the theaters— Whatever they were doing together, it was the cheek aches from smiling and laughing, the corks saved with captured memories written in tiny messages, and the late nights spent playing games that truly came to define their love.
