The story begins in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 22, 2022. . .
. . . when Danna and Micah met during their freshman year of college. Danna initially thought Micah was nice but a bit weird, especially after he asked if she wanted to try his “onewheel” (which she ended up loving... obviously). Not thinking much of it, Micah called his dad later that night and said, “I think I just met some of my first real friends in college.”
By the time sophomore year came around, they knew they wanted to be friends, and together with their roommates, they began going on many late-night Taco Bell runs, having jam sessions, and making peanut butter balls. As their friendship grew, they should have seen signs something more was going on; like feeling a little too excited when their friends were busy and it ended up being just the two of them, or Micah walking Danna home even though he lived in the opposite direction. She probably should have caught on when he paid $460 to rescue his car after getting towed from her house without telling her, or when he showed up at midnight for her (all girls) Taylor Swift listening party. Still, whenever anyone asked if they liked each other, both quickly responded “No!”
In 2023, while Danna spent most of the summer interning with a church in Belgium, she somehow also managed to visit Micah’s hometown, stay up far too late facetiming him, and meet up when they were coincidentally in Boston over the same weekend—leading her to drop the first “we need to talk” on the first day of junior year. The talk clarified… almost nothing. Neither admitted feelings, but they did agree they should absolutely NOT date. Naturally, they then spent the semester as “just friends,” getting endless coffee, going on long walks, and sledding after the first snow. As the semester ended and Danna prepared to study abroad in Greece, they realized there was no point in denying it anymore—they both liked each other. What?!?!! But after lots of prayer, they decided the timing still wasn’t right and let each other go. While apart, they did their best to stop thinking about each other; but it didn’t help that he constantly went to her favorite spots in Ann Arbor so he could send her a picture, or that she constantly wrote songs about him she said she would NEVER show him. Seeing each other in Portugal over spring break was the turning point they both hoped for, as they had an honest conversation and realized they wanted to date for sure when Danna came back. Soon after, during one of their facetime calls, Micah told her about helping with a friend’s engagement and then asked, “have you ever thought about how you’d want to be proposed to?”, which she thought was veryyy subtle.
On May 29, 2024, Danna came home from Greece and went to Ann Arbor to move out. Micah, conveniently in town for the night, helped her pack everything up and finally asked if she wanted to start dating :’). That summer, while the two worked at different summer camps during the weeks, they spent their weekends together going to the beach, coffee shops, farmers markets, watching sunsets, stargazing, camping, and surfing. She got to know his family through many Sunday lunches and trips to the beach, and he got to know her family through many facetimes and phone calls. As the summer turned into fall, they began their senior year together, and with such a deep foundation of friendship and years of prayer, it didn’t take long for them to start talking about a future together. By Christmas time, as they started looking at rings together, little did she know… he had already bought a ring and asked her parents for their blessing. On May 1, 2025, they went to Lake Michigan to celebrate what Danna thought was Micah’s surprise birthday party. Instead, Micah got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and in shock, her first words were “NO WAY!” But of course, she said “YES!”, and together with their family and friends, they celebrated the day, filled with gratitude and excitement for the rest of their story!
