Our Story

Dan and Tina met in the spring of 2017 (#ThanksBumble). The first thing she asked him was, "Do you think Paula Poundstone is funny?" Neither of them remember Dan's answer, but apparently it was the right one. During their first date at Lula Cafe (or maybe it was over drinks afterwards on the patio at Small Bar) they made a handshake deal to travel together to Key West, a place neither of them had visited. To honor that deal, Dan and Tina made the Keys their first trip together over Labor Day weekend that year. Marking the first (of what will become numerous) minor nautical mishaps, they got stranded on a sandbar while kayaking at low-tide just off of Little Deer Key. That fall, the two visited southwest Michigan’s shore and fulfilled a lifelong dream of Dan’s, captaining a houseboat. They woke from said dream fishing unsecured deck furniture cushions out of Saugatuck’s harbor during a storm in the middle of the night. More escapades ensued as 2018 and 2019 flew by. Dan’s appreciation for Tina’s independence and energy only grew, as did Tina’s gratitude for Dan’s up-for-anything attitude and sense of adventure. Tina realized the longtime goal of home ownership with her own Chicago two-flat. Dan acclimated from his previous nomadic lifestyle to that of a building superintendent and helped make the house a home. They continued their travels: learning to scuba dive in the Caribbean off the tiny island of Saba, celebrated Tina’s birthday under California stars at Lake Arrowhead, and danced along with a Christmas second line in the streets of New Orleans. Dan and Tina also grew closer supporting each other’s advancing careers, celebrating promotions and figuring out how to make a commute between Washington D.C. and Chicago work. 2020 has shown us how important having the right partner is during challenging times! We look forward to sharing our small, at home wedding via Zoom with all of you!
