Visit the "crown of the continent" and take a hike to the top of Mt.Aeneas. This moderate 6 mile round trip hike takes you to the highest point in the jewel basin at 7,528ft, with panoramic views of the Flathead valley and Fathead Lake, Glacier National Park, the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and several other alpine lakes. This is one of our favorite hiking destinations! *Please be bear aware! This is grizzly and black bear country. It would be in your best interest to invest in some bear mace if you decide to do any back country hiking. There's also a good chance you'll run into some mountain goats or big horned sheep while hiking in the jewel basin.
Visit the healing mineral waters at the supposedly haunted Symes Hot Springs Hotel in Hot Springs, Montana. There are several other hot springs in the town also, including Hungry Horse, Rose's, and a few others. None of them are primitive and you do have to pay to get in, but all the pools are outdoors. *If you have time and want to visit some primitive hot springs check out Jerry Johnson Hot Springs on the border of Montana and Idaho. It's about a 3 hour drive from Kalispell Airport, or an hour and a half drive from Missoula Airport. The hike from the parking area to the springs is only about a mile and its a really flat and easy trek.
