Danielle and Spencer met on Hinge in the midst of the unknown that was May 2020. Danielle lived in Vancouver, and Spencer was in town visiting his family for Mother's Day. Danielle liked that Spencer wasn't an engineer; Spencer liked that Danielle wasn't in the legal profession. Spencer and Danielle quickly learned they had many things in common: They grew up a few miles apart, attended rival high schools, and as adults attended the same church. Unbeknownst to Danielle, Spencer was only in town for a week and was returning back to Michigan to study for the bar. Danielle, sensing that something was wrong, asked Spencer when he was heading back to Michigan. Spencer sheepishly responded that he was at the airport. Danielle was not happy. Undeterred, Danielle was determined to not give up on their conversation. They quickly arranged to do a zoom date that week. The date went well; they spent the time asking each other's questions. Over the course of the summer, Danielle and Spencer had many more virtual dates: baking together, watching movies, and lots of talking. Due to the pandemic, Spencer's start date for his job in D.C. was delayed and decided to come back home to Vancouver. They both were excited to meet each other for the first time. Danielle's first impression of Spencer was that he was more handsome in person. Spencer's first impression of Danielle was that she was tall and had brown hair. Over the following months, their relationship continued to grow. Spencer made the decision to stay close to Vancouver while working remotely, so many adventures close to the Pacific Northwest were had. These included hiking, becoming regulars at Lardo, and spending too much money at the Columbia Employee Store. They celebrated the good times and supported each other in the tough times (like finding out that Spencer was an Oregon Ducks fan). They both knew that they found their person.
In August 2021, Spencer and Danielle drove to Phoenix to move Spencer into his new apartment. Along the way, they stopped in Yosemite and Las Vegas (in under 24 hours, in fact). Spencer had already bought a ring and was smuggling it down with him. Danielle did not know he had even had time to purchase a ring before leaving. Danielle was visiting Spencer in Phoenix and they planned a trip to the Grand Canyon. They spent their first day hiking and eating an XL pizza. The next day, after a breakfast in the park and an easy walk to a secluded viewpoint, Spencer surprised Danielle as he got down on one knee, asking her to marry him.
