We first met on a school trip to Washington, D.C. — two strangers who ended up sitting next to each other on a bench in a museum, not realizing that in a year, we’d be dating. Our first real conversation wasn't until about six months later at the Brighton High School football season opener. Keaton wanted to ask for my number, but he was in a complicated situation at the time. Early freshman year, we’d pass each other in the hallways with waves, or casual “heys”. But one day, I was waiting for my sister Jordan to pick me up after school, hanging around in the freshman hallway. Keaton was nearby with our friend Parker, waiting for Driver’s Ed. We started joking around, flicking bottle caps at each other. That little moment sparked our interest to get to know each other more. After he ended his previous relationship, Keaton added me on Snapchat. Soon enough, we went on a double date - watching The Notebook, eating pizza, and may have shared a kiss or two. Just a month later, on my birthday, he surprised me with a heart-shaped necklace and asked me to be his girlfriend. Our first year and a half together was a whirlwind of firsts and adventures: learning to drive, going to homecoming and school dances, spirit weeks, drive-in movies, and cheering on the Red Wings. Though we broke up once, fate had other plans. A year later, we found our way back to each other, starting fresh as “just friends.” Every day, we texted, spent time together, and shared memories. We went on trips up north and even went to prom as “friends.” But deep down, we both knew there was something so much more. One night, under the stars at one of my favorite places — Sauble Resorts in Ludington, MI — Keaton asked me to be his girlfriend once again. Since then, we’ve been inseparable. We’ve had so many adventures. We both went to Grand Valley State University - balancing school, work, new friends, and just figuring life out. After graduation, we decided to try something new and moved to Royal Oak, MI. Then came the big step of finding our first house in White Lake, MI. On moving day, with candles, flower petals, and photos from our years together, Keaton proposed on our back deck. Through tears and laughter, I said yes right away, fumbling to figure out which hand the ring went on. From flicking bottle caps in the freshman hallway to buying our first home, it’s been quite a ride. We’re so excited for all that’s ahead — and even more excited that we get to share this special day with all of you!
