Many of the suggestions listed here are within the Centro district of Oaxaca and you'll pass most of these attractions along with many museums, shops, restaurants, and bars as you stroll the neighborhood. Outside of Centro, there are a few recommended day trips especially the spectacular Monte Alban. So much to see and do!

For foodies who love culinary hidden gems this place is a MUST. Alfonsina is off the beaten path about a 40 minute taxi drive from the center of town. There is no official menu, but you will get a 5 course meal using whatever's fresh in Central de Abastos Market that day. The humble restaurant setting is in the backyard of renowned Chef Jorge Leon and his mother Dona Elvia. Reservations here are required and we recommend booking 1-2 weeks in advance.
