Please note that nonstop flights from LAX to Rome are very limited. We highly recommend booking your flights as soon as possible. There are various apps and websites that you can use to either freeze the fare or pay over time if needed. Jo's favorite app is Hopper.

While we don't want to dissuade anyone from renting a car, please note that Rome has certain restrictions when driving in specific areas. Violating these restrictions can result in hefty fines. Please be sure to research ZTL rules and regulations before confirming rental plans. We feel that Rome is best seen on foot, or via public transport.

Taxis are a bit tricky in Rome, but here are some tips to help you navigate: Taxis in Rome are metered and charge per kilometer, with rates increasing as the fare goes up (T1: €1.14/km, T2: €1.35/km, T3: €1.66/km). Fares also change depending on the time of the day. Taxis can be expensive and we think Rome is best seen on foot or via public transportation, which is relatively easy to navigate. Getting a Taxi: Taxi Stands: Find designated taxi stands throughout Rome, marked with an orange "TAXI" sign. You'll see white city taxis lined up, and you can hop into the first one. Hailing a Taxi: It's not common to hail a taxi on the street and we don't recommend it. Calling for a Taxi: Call 060609 (Rome city) or 063570 (largest radio-taxi operator) to book a taxi. You can also ask your hotel concierge to call for you. Taxi Apps: IT Taxi FreeNow Airport Fares: Fixed rates apply for trips between Rome's airports and within the Aurelian Walls: - Fiumicino to Rome: €50 - Ciampino to Rome: €31 Credit Cards: Most taxis accept credit cards, but it's a good idea to ask the driver before getting in. Tips and Precautions Tipping: Not required, but rounding up to the nearest euro is appreciated. Precautions: Be cautious of scammy drivers, especially at airports and train stations. Make sure the driver turns on the meter, and don't get into non-metered taxis.
