After much prompting and skilled match making by a mutual friend, Dubem sent Dani a hesitant text message introducing himself. An instant connection was felt between the two and a friendship quickly started to form. Many jokes and stories shared between the two shifted into their first phone conversation that lasted over three hours. It was apparent that the chemistry was undeniable despite the 137 miles separating the two.
After about 2.5 months of getting to know each other through messages and phone calls, Dani and Dubem decided to finally meet for their first date. The humor in this is the location of their first date. Somewhere between Bowling Green, OH and Pickerington, OH; they decided on the Mansfield State Reformatory for a tour of the museum. What better place to physically meet the person you'd been getting to know than at an abandoned prison turned museum! Despite the initial nerves and awkward exchanges, it didn't take long for them to find the things they found interesting about one another. Conversations flowed about topics ranging from music, social justice, but mainly their faith. The first date and meet up was just a confirmation they were ready to make things official between the two the next day on February 11th, 2018.
Two days after Christmas and being sold the story of having a "family dinner," Dubem drove Dani to his house to "pick up presents" for a "gift exchange." Opening the door to his parents' basement and immediately being met with candles and roses, it registered in Dani's mind what was actually happening. Dubem planned every moment to a perfect tee. Not only did he surprise her with her family and also their closest friends, he even had some friends and family from out of town join over zoom! Caught totally by surprise, thankfully the night was captured on video to help fill in the memory gaps from all of the excitement. The beautiful timing of everything and flawless execution of the night, perfectly depicted the work and will of God in Dubem and Dani's relationship. An accumulation of 4 years of prayers, growth, and patience; all directed and orchestrated by an even bigger and better God. This night was just a glimpse of the more He will be doing as they prepare to be one fall of 2022.
