Question

What do I need to rent a car in Ireland?

Answer

Most cars in Ireland are manual transmission. All rental car companies should have plenty of automatic transmission options (it may be a bit more expensive but well worth it for Americans as you will be driving on the opposite side of the road). Most major travel credit cards with cover the CDW fee and can help save you some money ("collision damage waiver" also called "loss damage waiver"). Ireland companies are very strict about providing proof of your card providing that type of coverage. You need a letter from your credit card company that shows your name, has "Ireland" listed as a country that is covered, and needs to be dated within 30 days of your visit. If you simply call your credit card company and explain that you are renting a car in Ireland, most will email you a letter you can show at the rental car counter. Please make sure to save the letter to your phone/computer, they will check! Question

Will you be providing transportation?

Answer

If you are staying at Kilkea Castle, there will be bus shuttles leaving at 1:20pm and 1:40pm to take you to the church. We kindly ask that if you are renting a car or driving your own car to Kilkea that you please drive yourself to and from the church in order to allow guests without cars to use the bus shuttles. If you are staying at the Seven Oaks hotel, there will be a car leaving the hotel at 1:30pm to take you to the church. Please then take the bus shuttle after the church back to Kilkea for the wedding reception. A taxi will be providing a return trip to Seven Oaks at 1:00am.

Question

What travel documents do I need for Ireland / Europe?

Answer

EU entry requirements are changing (soon)! If you are a citizen of a country outside of the EU that previously did not require a visa to enter Europe (e.g., US, Canada, or Australia), you may need to apply for ETIAS authorization before your trip once the program launches. Ireland does not currently require this authorization but if you are planning to travel in Europe around our wedding please ensure you visit etias.com for more information. Please also make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after your trip ends!
