How We Met

It was my freshman year of college and his first year of grad school at Ball State University. I knew his roommate at the time. We had met a couple times in the past. I wanted someone to come to the library with me to study; Con happened to be the one to answer my tweet. We went to the library that night and have been together ever since.

The Proposal

Danielle is known for her lack of wanting to get out of bed (she's laying on the couch as I write this). I decided I wanted to set up a surprise proposal while on a wine trip somewhere in Indiana. I decided we could go up near Fort Wayne, to a couple of the wineries and I would propose somewhere on a vineyard. Danielle didn't want to go north that weekend, so it was canceled. To save you the trouble of telling that same tale 43,782 times, lets just say that sort of thing happened for the better part of a year. Finally, I had enough. We had a pretty cool day trip planned to visit wineries in southern Indiana, near Santa Claus, IN and I was not going to let this proposal wait any longer. She again, of course, wanted to just stay around the house and not go on the trip, which wasn't going to happen. I was insistent on this trip, to her be groan. We had a nice day, touring winery, winery, and winery. We ended at a winery near French Lick. He was raining, which was just my luck since I had outdoor plans. I brought my clubs, because I wanted to "go to the driving range" while in French Lick. Danielle thought we could skip this rather boring part of the day because of the rain, but I persisted. I drug her up to the top of the bluff at French Lick, overlooking the valley. I asked her to get a quick photo before we went to the range, because it was pretty and this is my favorite place in Indiana. She wasn't excited, but relented. I had her walk out on a tee box and face the edge so I could set up the camera on auto and run up to grab her hand. This was all obviously a ruse to be able to grad the ring that was, and had been for nearly a year, living in my golf bag. I finally was able to walk up behind her, get on one knee, and ask her to turn around and spend the rest of her life with me. In my haste, I grabbed her silicone ring instead of the diamond one, but nevertheless she said yes. She was a puddle of tears once we got to my bag and I handed her the diamond.

For all the days along the way
