Brodie and Danielle met in 2018 in Danielle's first semester of college in Statistics class at De Anza college in Cupertino, California. Their professor was truly something else...in a bad way. The whole class was failing (including both of them). Danielle was determined not to fail her first semester so she decided to help herself and her classmates teach themselves the material. She formed a study group by passing a paper around the class to collect phone numbers. Danielle used Brodie's phone number to ask him to study with her, and that is how their friendship began. (They would both go on to get a D in that class that year after studying so hard. That's how bad the professor was. They took the same class together the next semester with a different professor and both passed with flying colors.) Brodie introduced Danielle to all his friends. They were both dating other people at the time, so they were fine with being good friends! Over the course of several years, their friendship grew closer and closer until the feelings they had for each other became more than platonic. In April 2022, Danielle and Brodie finally had a conversation about their relationship, and agreed to just stay friends so they wouldn't complicate their relationships. But secretly, they were both crushed! Danielle was very upset to lose Brodie, but sure that turning their friendship into a relationship would be a mistake. So, Brodie decided to move on, and started going on dates to try to get over his feelings. However, Danielle (with the tough love of a close friend) realized what a mistake it would be to let Brodie fall in love with someone else. So after months of talking it out, trying to squash their feelings, and even pausing their friendship, Danielle finally threw her worries to the wayside. She decided to call Brodie and ask him to come meet her. Brodie was two and a half hours away, but quickly hopped in the car to make the drive. At midnight on May 22, 2022, in a hotel lobby, Danielle asked Brodie if he wanted to give their relationship an honest shot. Surprised and delighted, Brodie emphatically replied "Yes!" And, Danielle got to reply the same way on November 29, 2024 when Brodie dropped to his knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. It was the day after Thanksgiving on the annual Christmas tree hunting trip with her family (and, coincidentally, her mom Kim's birthday). Kim remarked that her new son-in-law was "the best birthday present ever!"
