Technically speaking, we “met” in high school. However we didn’t connect until much later in 2018. My cooler handle broke when I tried to get it out of my car for a friend's Memorial Day party, I couldn't get it out of the space it was in. When I went to ask someone at the party for help, Brian jumped right up and came to help me. We spent the rest of the party talking and getting to know each other since we were only acquainted previously. We have barely spent a single day apart since then.
One year later on our anniversary, Memorial Day, Brian was in cahoots with my Mom and various others at our party to set up a proposal. I didn't want my cell phone in my pocket, so I gave it to him. While I was sitting on the deck talking with my cousin and my sister, Brian noticed that Haley (our puppy) had gone to the bathroom where the kids were playing in the yard. At this point the ring, which I had obliviously been sitting next to in the truck for 2 months, was in his pocket. He cleaned up after Haley and heard the ring leave its holder. Without giving himself away, he couldn't fix it. So he came up on the deck, I asked him for my phone, he said he had something better. I looked at him confused, and that is when he said "I love you" and got down on one knee, opened the box, and the ring fell out! He picked it up, and asked me to marry him. Since you're here, you can see I said yes.
