How We Met

New Orleans 2016

We were both in the interterm Cuisine and Culture class, I remember walking into the classroom for the very first time and saw her. Alayna was wearing her specs, a beige Herrington jacket, dark wash skinny jeans, and brown boots (looking totally radical). I couldn’t keep my eyes off of this person whose name I didn’t even know (my heart was captured); I kept sneaking peaks. I thought she was ‘hot stuff’! Fast forward, we are in STL at the Dream Center when I saw Alayna talking to someone and I heard “I graduated high school early” and I knew that was my chance to cut in. “Hi, I too, graduated early!” I was so eager, I remember my heart pounding the whole time, but I still didn’t have a name because we are supposed to know everyone’s names by now (I. Did. Not). Anyways, we talked and I walked near her, stood by her, in hopes she would talk to me again. She. Did. Not. I thought she was SO totally cool. We officially, you could say, met at a restaurant where college students were playing jazz (which was not the original plan for jazz in New Orleans). I knew her name by this time and totally looked up her Facebook. We. Talked. She called me a mouse. And then bam, she gave me her number and told me that we should hang out sometime. I took that ‘sometime’ to mean when we got back to the hotel. I took her up on that offer and texted her that we should go on a walk. During this walk, the famous 10 Second Fall into a parked car took place over Alayna chasing a cat for me to pet. She was trying to impress me. It touched my heart. She ended up fracturing her ankle after that, I called her ‘Gimpy’ and I swore I wasn’t flirting (I totally was). That’s how we officially met. It was a month later when we got back that I finally hung out with her (I was really nervous), and then we shortly started dating. We’ve been together for 3 years now. If it was not for my mother who told me I should go on that trip, I wouldn’t have met Alayna. Thanks mom!
