Cotopaxi National Park is one of our favorite places to visit in Ecuador. It is the perfect location if you love outdoor adventures and jaw-dropping views. You can hike around the base of the stunning Cotopaxi volcano, take in some incredible scenery, and just enjoy the fresh mountain air. I highly recommend visiting if you’ve got a bit of time to soak up Ecuador’s natural beauty. Just a heads-up: the high altitude can be challenging, so make sure to stay hydrated and take it easy if you’re not used to it. I also do not recommend attempting to hike the Cotopaxi highlands until you've given your body a few days to adjust to the altitude.
Otavalo is a charming town known for its vibrant indigenous market, where you can find everything from colorful textiles to handcrafted souvenirs. It's a fantastic place to immerse yourself in local culture and pick up unique gifts. The surrounding area also offers beautiful scenery, including lakes and volcanoes, making it a great spot for a relaxing day trip.
If you’re up for a bit of adventure, Mindo is a great spot to check out. It’s a beautiful cloud forest with tons of wildlife and cool things to do, like hiking to waterfalls or zip-lining through the trees. It’s just a short drive from Quito and offers a perfect chance to soak in some nature and have a bit of fun.
Take a few days to explore one of our favorite places in Ecuador. El Oriente, located about 4 hours from Quito, is Ecuador’s Amazon region, where you can dive into lush rainforests, see some amazing wildlife, go kayaking, hiking and learn about local indigenous cultures. It’s a great place for a unique adventure if you’re up for exploring the heart of the jungle. Just be ready for the full rainforest experience!
The Galápagos Islands are a unique paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and adventure seekers. Located about a 1-hour flight from Quito, these islands are home to some of the world’s most unique animals and pristine landscapes. You can snorkel with playful sea lions, spot giant tortoises, and explore volcanic terrains. It’s an amazing place to experience nature up close and make some incredible memories. Definitely do some research about the different islands and types of tours available to make the most of your time there.
