We first met in 2023 at Christ For The Nations, sitting at the same long cafeteria table with other first-semester students. Out of nowhere, a voice rang out across the table, doing a spot-on impression of Malaysia’s famous food critic, Uncle Roger. "Haaiyyaaa you eat da plain white rice? Why you hate flavuuhh, fuiyooohh!!" Katie whipped her head so fast toward the sound that she nearly gave herself whiplash. Her first thought was, *Wait… this American knows Uncle Roger?!* That one silly moment turned into the first of many laughs we’d share. That summer, while serving side by side at Kids For The Nations summer camp, our friendship began to grow. We worked, laughed, and encouraged each other through the long days, never realizing how much those everyday moments were knitting our hearts together. We kept telling everyone (and ourselves) we were “just like siblings,” but looking back, we can see how God was quietly preparing us for something far greater than we could imagine. On November 15, 2024, he finally asked Katie out, and by April 19, 2025, he was on one knee with a ring in hand. Katie’s reaction? A mix of surprise, laughter, and a very quick “yes.” Looking back, we see how God used laughter, friendship, and shared purpose to bring us to this point. We started as two strangers on opposite sides of the world, but He knew from the very beginning where this story was headed—and now, we get to step into forever, together.
