Daniel arrived to Dahlia’s church in November, 2019 (just in time for the COVID pandemic)! He still remembers the outfit she was wearing and the song she sang as she led worship that Wednesday evening. She greeted him warmly and welcomed him to the country. As the weeks and months (and years) went on, Daniel began to develop an admiration for the girl who seemed always to be smiling. In December of 2021, he decided to test the waters by giving her a small Christmas gift. Dahlia accepted the gift but was careful not to lead him on. She was simply uninterested. After a few other attempts were met with the same cordial indifference, Daniel was tempted to give up. Then came 2023. Dahlia started to notice things about Daniel, things she hadn’t noticed before - glimpses of his worldview, his heart of service and gentle leadership - and she found herself intrigued by this man she had been so dexterously avoiding for years. She decided early in 2023 that, if he asked her out, she would say yes. It didn’t take long for Daniel to notice a shift in Dahlia’s demeanor towards him, and from then on, their journey began. In April, he offered to drive her home for the first time, and she accepted. A month later, he asked her out for their first date. After nearly two months of casual dating, they decided to begin a relationship with the purpose of exploring the possibility of marriage. And on March 2nd, 2024, 7 months after making their relationship official, Daniel got down on one knee to ask Dahlia to be his bride. And this time, there was no indifference in her reply when she laughed and said, “Yes!”
