FAQs

Question

Are children welcome?

Answer

We adore your children, however space is limited and this is an adults only event. We appreciate you making arrangements ahead of time and leaving the kids at home so you can celebrate with us. The only exceptions are the children of the wedding party and nursing newborns.

Question

When do I need to RSVP by?

Answer

As soon as possible - but hopefully by October 10th :) Please RSVP online (only) in the RSVP section.

Question

Is the event outdoors?

Answer

No, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception will all take place indoors. However, the parking is not covered so please plan accordingly if the weather looks bad.

Question

Can I take pictures?

Answer

We would love to see your photos from our day; please tag them at #newlywards However, we ask that the ceremony be unplugged and that you refrain from posting any photos of the bride and groom until they have done so.

Question

Is this place big?

Answer

It's the right size for the event. That being said there is not likely to be lots of extra seating, so please be friendly and realize this is not a movie theatre; please do not follow the one seat between rule! Introduce yourself to your neighbor and sit next to them unless they're specifically saving a seat :)

Question

Will this wedding really start at 4pm?

Answer

Yes, yes it will. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to be seated so you don't miss the processional :) otherwise, you'll have to wait til after the bride walks down the aisle.

Question

Will there be food?

Answer

Yes, there will be a cocktail hour and dinner, followed by some delicious donuts, and possibly other desserts, in place of wedding cake.

Question

What is the parking situation?

Answer

There are 48 parking spaces right in front of the venue, and ample extra parking behind the venue in the shopping center if we have overflow. And I know you're worried because this is Austin we are talking about...but parking is free. However, it is Austin we are talking about so please plan accordingly for traffic! It is on the South side of Austin, so hopefully you won't run into too much of it, and the event is purposefully planned to be offset of the highest traffic times, but...this is Austin.

Question

What happens after the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony and reception will be held in the same location, literally, and will require a room flip. Once the ceremony is complete the wedding party will be taking photos and cocktail hour will commence in the other half of the building while tables are setup in the ceremony area for dinner.

Question

Is there a theme?

Answer

Not specifically; but the bride is a girl that likes fancy stuff so feel free to be a little extra and wear your favorite fanciest outfit.

Question

Will there be dancing?

Answer

Yes! There will absolutely be dancing. Some music that you don't have to know the steps and you can make it up as you go along, some country two stepping, some swing dancing, and a line dance or two. Actually, feel free to make any of it up as you go along, just watch out for toes.

Question

I don't jump in on dances I don't know the steps to, can you help me out with this?

Answer

We really only plan on having one line dance and just about anyone is coordinated enough to jump in on this simple line dance...but if you want to look like a pro right from the get-go when it is played here is a video that shows the steps (because there are a bunch of versions out there, however this is the popular Texas version). Of note, I have no idea who these people are, but they already made a video and have saved me from the embarrassment of doing so, so I appreciate them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpkPTCjJKyA&t=6s The song is Copperhead Road by Steve Earl

Question

I have no idea how to swing dance, can you help me out with that?

Answer

Absolutely. Swing dancing has an easy step and everything is done with those steps in the same order, you just might be facing a different direction when you do them - it makes it super simple to stay on step and not lose your count! If you're interested in lessons beforehand San Antonio has quite a few opportunities to get exposed to swing dancing. San Antonio Swing Dance Society offers an intro to swing class every Wednesday at 8pm (https://www.sasds.org/classes) no partner needed, they will teach you about the music and the basic steps and you will learn a turn or two. There are several other places in San Antonio that also offer lessons.

Question

What about country 2-step?

Answer

I honestly have no recommendations for learning country 2-step besides going to Gruene Hall in the summers or simply finding someone who knows how to do it and having them show you the steps.

Question

Which side should I sit on?

Answer

There will be a couple of rows reserved in the front for family, however beyond that please choose a seat where you would like.
