Travel Note
To travel to Italy in 2027, you will need your passport as well as approval through ETIAS- a new pre-travel screening for visa-free visitors, designed to boost security and streamline border checks. It will be launching in Q4 of 2026. It is a short form you fill out with your personal information in order to enter countries within the EU/Schengen Area. We will drop the link here when the application goes live. Remember, your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date!
Travel Note
There are direct flights available from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to Rome's Fiumicino Airport (FCO), also knows as the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. This is their main international airport, and we recommend flying here.
Travel Note
There are cabs readily available at the main exit after baggage claim. They charge a flat rate fee of 55 euros to the city center. Do not accept the cab meter or to pay more than this fee. You can also opt to order an Uber. The ride from the airport to the city center is about 40 minutes depending on traffic.
Travel Note
Rome widely accepts credit cards. Most of the time you will not need cash. We recommend traveling with a credit card without foreign transaction fees. We load ours onto Apple Pay for seamless checkouts. Remember to pay in Euros at checkout- choosing USD on a card machine has a more expensive conversion rate.
