Believe it or not, we met on a dating app called Plenty Of Fish. After talking for hours on our first phone call we decided to pursue getting to know each other more which led to many more phone calls. Finally, we decided to meet and had an amazing first date at a hole in the wall Vietnamese/Cajun fusion restaurant, where we drew crabs on the paper table cover and shared really good food and conversation. Little did we know that a seemingly silly little dating app would lead to our forever, but we are so happy it did.
July 17, 2021 started out as many July days in Texas start… hot and miserable. A friend was visiting and had insisted on going to the Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth when they opened so he could take photos all day. I (Rachel) woke up not wanting to join in on the outing, but Daniel insisted we go and that I wear a dress so we could take pictures together. I begrudgingly got ready, and we all piled in to the car. Once there, we began walking through the gardens, and we came upon a gazebo. Daniel and I were standing on the gazebo, and we were being told to pose for a picture, so we got closer, and that’s when Daniel said, “Hey, look, babe, is that a turtle?” And drew my attention to the water behind the gazebo. There were no turtles. When I turned back to tell him that was a rock, he was on his knee, proposing. Obviously, I said yes!
Every couple faces obstacles. Some may even say overcoming these hurdles can make your relationship stronger. Our path has not been easy. We’ve experienced a LOT of losses in our time together. There are so many times where we could have given up, on each other or on our future, yet we are still here. We have had our hearts broken, our lives turned upside down, and yet, here we are, about to say “I do”, finally, in front of our loved ones. Together, and with the strength of the Lord, we look forward to our forever and whatever may come our way.
